In the Waiting.
How to trust God when things aren’t working out the way you thought they would.
I have never met a person who prefers to wait for things.
We are so fortunate to have high-speed data, a DVR that lets us fast forward through commercials, and Mexican restaurants that get us our food in minutes.
When we have to wait for our food, an important text back or a train when we’re running late, it gets frustrating.
No wonder we get frustrated when waiting to hear from God.
On August 12th, 2022, I came back from my summer ministry job in Pennsylvania. As soon as I got back, I found myself in a time of waiting — waiting for emails back from jobs and for God to guide me into the next chapter.
This time of waiting is so frustrating because I’ve also found this to be a time of hurting.
I’m grieving. Grieving the opportunities I let go of, the jobs I didn’t get, the summer at home I missed, and my relationships that changed.
Things are just different. I am different.
I don’t want to wait, I hate to wait. But as I wait and I take the time to limit distractions and turn to God, He reveals things to me.
It’s hard because He only reveals things in little pieces, but I know each piece is a sign from Him to keep listening and waiting for Him to reveal more.
“Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14 NLT
I don’t know what you’re waiting on God for. Maybe it’s answers on what’s next or maybe you’re asking for guidance in a relationship. Whatever you’re waiting for, know it’s okay to not know.
As Dolly Parton and Zach Williams sing, “In the waiting, in the searching. In the healing and the hurting.”
It is okay to wait. You’re not going to be behind if you slow down and wait for the Lord.
He is the only one who knows what is next for you.
Even if you’re grieving change or hurting because God isn’t answering you when you need him to, God’s timing is sovereign.
He knows all things and works through all things. So trust in Him.
